2008 WSOP Updates: WSOP - Update
  By: Fred Adler - July 11th, 2008
Good Morning, Well, it is so true what they say....The worst day of the year is your last day at the World Series of Poker. Our last two players representing the MPT/Boardroom have been knocked out of the Main Event. Seth Krasne started his day 3 with a short stack of 28K. He was able to steal some blinds and maintain his stack for a while, but then when he pushed with A high he was called with A low and the cards just did not fall his way. Seth entered the Main Event with winnings from the Heartland tour event here in Tucson where he placed 6th. Great showing Seth and thanks for representing Tucson and the MPT. I know you are all wondering, how did Frank do? Of course you are....especially the other 47 Championship Event players. Frank also represented the MPT very well. Making it deep into day 3. Frank has gone farther in the Main Event than any previous MPT Champion. He was knocked out yesterday with less than 800 players left when his Aces were cracked. The hand went like this: There was 12K in the pot from blinds and antes....Frank looks at his hand and sees AA, now I know what went on in his head.....I've been there and yep, you guessed it.....those little purple winged creatures we all love. He is called with 10 10.....and they begin to sing....can this get any.....UGGGHHHHH.....the flop comes with a 10. Hey Frank, Tide in cold water....takes out the stains. Need I say more? Well after Frank was all cleaned up and feeling a little better he sent me the following text. " My spirits are better, I think I am over the cracked aces.....thanks to everyone for all their support." A true champion....with a new nickname. One of the circuit pros stuck the new handle on Frank because of the way he would bet and pull down big pots pre-flop. So we will all know him now by Frank "Deepstack" Estrella. Great run Frank and thanks so much for representing the MPT in great fashion. Congratulations again on being the 2008 MPT Champion. Today is the day we all dread.....well maybe some of you dont...you will now have an extra 10 minutes every day where you don't have to read my ramblings. Its the end of the line for our 2008 WSOP. I want to take this time to thank you all. 2008 was a great year for the MPT and we are looking forward to the 2009 season. All the players at the WSOP were overwhelmed with the many text, email and voicemail messages of encouragement. So, as I sign off this last time from the 2008 WSOP please know we truly appreciate all the support. See you all soon.....on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: WSOP- UPdate
  By: Fred Adler - July 10th, 2008
Good Morning, Its Thursday July 10th and finally Day 3 of the 2008 WSOP Main Event. After 4 Day ones and 2 Day twos, the remaining players can now fit into the Amazon Room. Two players from the MPT/Boardroom remain in the Main Event. Seth Krasne and Frank Estrella. Seth waded through almost 1300 players on Tuesday to make it within 460. After a day off he and his 28K in chips will be ready to attack. Frank Estrella, 2008 MPT Champion, also made it through a large field on his day two. His chip count was as high as 88K and as low as 25K but he was able to survive and end his day with 51K. Today day 3 will begin at Noon and the remaining 1308 players will all be in the same room at the same time for the first time this year. There are some big names still remaining. You can follow Seth and Frank on worldseriesofpoker.com and of course check back in here for updates. Talk about updates.....Andy "stiritup24" Fitzpatrick is on fire!!! He has cashed 3 times over the past 2 weeks for over 18K on Poker Stars. You can find Andy most nights playing in the Pstars 109 dollar buy in event. Hey Andy, way to represent. Call me, lets do lunch....I need to know the secret. :) Keep and eye out for updates on the 2009 MPT season. The new season will begin in August. Dont forget the MPT Online tournaments held every Wednesday at 7pm on Full Tilt. See you all soon....on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: Wsop Update
  By: Fred Adler - July 7th, 2008
Good Evening, It is Monday Night July 7th....a day off for all the remaining players from the MPT/Boardroom in the WSOP Main Event. Tomorrow Seth Krasne and Deb Blair will resume their day 2. Wednesday Frank Estrella the 2008 MPT Champion will resume his Day 2. Frank is the first MPT Champion to make it past day one. Here is how he got there. After the first break 2 hours into the Main Event he finished with 19400 in chips. He was as low as 17,000 and as high as 22000. He was feeling good about this as Alan Cunningham was seated at his table. Alan was the chip leader at the first break Frank said at that time "every decision is a battle" At the second break Frank raised his chip count to 26,000 after taking a hit and falling back down to 17,000. Cunningham was still the chip leader. At the dinner break Frank had 43K in chips and second at the table to Cunningham. He was able to chip up by knocking out a player with Q's and almost doubling up on the hand. On the last break before the night ended Frank was able to take 20K off of Cunningham with his KK over Alan's JJ. This hand put Frank at 50K. Frank said his last hour was his toughest and he ended up the day at 40K in chips. He said the experience was awesome and is planning on hanging by the pool for a couple of days to get ready for Wednesday. Great job Frank, Seth and Deb.....We are all pulling for each of you . Way to represent. Stay tuned as we get the reports on tomorrows action. See you all soon....on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: Wsop - Update
  By: Fred Adler - July 4th, 2008
Good morning, Happy Fourth of July to all...hope you all have a fun and safe day. It is now the best time of the year in poker. The Main Event has kicked off. The few days leading up to the start were just flooded with poker royalty as well as celebrity. The Rio has filled up with rooms and booths from companies associated with poker. The energy is awesome. Every where you look there is a familiar famous face. The cool thing, and something I just love about poker, is they are all approachable. Most players will freely take pictures, sign aoutographs and chat....just keep the bad beat stories down and they will be friendly. No other sport can you get this close to the true professionals. Yesterday was the 1st day one of the Main Event. Two players from the MPT/Boardroom were there. Deb Blair and Seth Krasne were two of 1297 entrants to what proved to be quite the extravaganza. The day began with The UNLV marching band and Wayne Newton taking the honor of starting the tournament with a traditional Shuffle up and Deal. 13 hours later the day ended with 636 players left including celbrity Ray Ramano and many of the big names in poker such as Barry Greenstein. Deb Blair ended the day with 17k in chips and Seth made it through to day two with 22K in chips. Keep up the good work and we will see you on day two. Stay tuned as more MPT/Boardroom players will begin their march to the Main Event bracelet over the next few days. See you all soon....on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: WSOP- Update
  By: Fred Adler - July 2nd, 2008
Good Evening, Did you miss me? I know you did Bruce. Well the last couple of days have been very cool. All In Energy Drinks put on a show that started last night. All In is the new energy drink company started by Johnny Chan. From what I understand (I never had an energy drink until this week) they are softer version of the other energy drinks and they are sugar free. At least thats the word from all the afficianados...most of them young internet poker geeks. Did I just say that? Anyway, Johnny and his team put on quite the show ...it startted with a party last night at the Palms. It was a pool party and by my standards (those of you that have been in the Freddie Zone know what I mean) it was a little lame. Oh don't get me wrong. It was pretty cool to see all the poker and hollywood celebs with the paparazzi going crazy. That part was like the old disco days...the flashes were like strobe lights. Where is Johnny T when you need him? Travolta that is. So that was cool, Johnny was cool, walked around shook hands talked to everyone that would stop him, signed autographs, he was a great host. But WTF...no food? Cash Bar? I just wasnt impressed. Then the music....oh man did that suck...there were way too many complaints of it being too loud. Most of the celebs came in, did a short interview then left. So did we. Mark "The Shark", Tony and I chilled at the party then cut out for dinner. Today was the All In Poker tournament, hence the party last night. Basically it was a tournament to promote the new drinks. $500,000 prize pool. 1400 players. Some bought in through a special deal with All In where they send you 16 cases of their drinks for a price of $400.00. Others were online qualifiers through a raffle and others were sponsor invites. They also had $1,000.00 bounties on the pros and some celebs that played. Tony and I played in the event today. It all kicked off at 11:00 am. Poker royalty everywhere...all there to help Johnny. Amarillo Slim, Dewey Tomko, Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Laak, Jennifer Tilley, Moneymaker, Shannon Elizabeth, Cindy Violette and many others. I was fortunate enough to have Moneymaker and Shannon Elizabeth at my table. Moneymaker was a bounty, Shannon said she bought in and got the juice. I had pocket Kings against Moneymaker and couldnt get him to commit to the pot....Oh well no bounty for me. The player next to me knocked him out after about an hour of play when he flopped a straight, checke it to the turn, Moneymaker hits his Ace on the turn and gets knocked out with AK in his hand. The Prize pool was 500k and they started paying at 300 players. Kinda cool that they payed that deep. Tony, who had Jennifter Tilley at the table next to him, was knocked out in the 2nd hour. I was able to make it to 41st place for a 1250 dollar cash. It was all fun and quite a different feel for a tournament. It was more of a party and fun atmoshphere and all the players were more relaxed. Tomorrow Mark Brement, Deb Blair arrive to get ready for the Main Event. At this time it looks like Seth Krasne, Ned and Frank Estrella (MPT Champion) will be in the Main Event. For me and Mark the Shark it is still up in the air. Stay tuned as we will continue to report the happenings. Again, thanks for all the messages and emails...we all appreciate the support. See you all soon.....on the felt, Fred Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: Wsop - Update
  By: Fred Adler - June 29th, 2008
Good Morning, Its Sunday at the Wsop and the place is packed. This is one of the biggest weekends every year. Three 1500 dollar events over 4 days, players trying satellite into the main event, sponsors and advertisers show up. There is a tremendous amount of buzz and activity for the last weekend before the Main Event. Yesterday TonySanta Maria and John Piotrowski played in the 1500 NL event. John was knocked out early and Tony made it past the dinner break. Mark "The Shark" Snyder continued his good month by cashing in the Venetian Deep stack tournament. He took 6th place money in a chop and pocketed another 10K. He was able to make the final table through a field of over 500 players. More Tucsonans are coming to town over the next day or two to prepare for the Main Event. Keep checking in on the news about your favorite MPT?/Boardroom player. 2008 WSOP Updates: Wsop-Update
  By: Fred Adler - June 28th, 2008
Good Morning...or is it afternoon? Ahhh Las Vegas where there is no time, no daytime no night time. Wish you all were here. Yesterday was the 2K Holdem event, unfortunately no one from the MPT/Boardroom lasted very long. There were over 2200 players and I was knocked out by MR. Luckbox in about an hour and a half. I played 4 hands. John piotrowski also played and lasted into the 4th hour when he met his demise. So, what to do then? A full day with nothing planned? A great idea came to me. Downtown!!! Yesss! The real Las Vegas, nitty gritty style. Have to do it. So downtown I went. The Fremont Street experience....fantastic. The biggest tv screen on the planet. Right overhead. This is very cool, the light show, people walking (some staggering) the streets, music shops and best of all, the low limit gaming tables. Now, I am not a gambler (poker is a game of skill) but the limits are low and I feel like a few drinks will do me good. Its off to the pai gow table...after a couple of hours, a few drinks and some new friends...we decide to try our hand at baccarat. Oh yes, the game that gives you the best odds against the house. The bet is one of two choices. You bet for the player or the bank...if you are correct you get paid 1 to 1 minus a small commission. It took about 10 minutes to learn, and was a blast. After a few more drinks and hours of Baccarat I was toast. It was off to the Palms for breakfast and then to bed. Today is the 1500 event. Tony Santa Maria, Seth Krasne and John Piotrowski are all entered. Keep your fingers crossed for them and I will update you tomorrow. See you soon....on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: Wsop- Update
  By: Fred Adler - June 25th, 2008
Good Morning, Yes, I am still here...alive and well at the WSOP in Las Vegas. Yesterday was not a huge day as there aren't a whole lot of people from Tucson here. I know for a fact, that many are returning this weekend and for the Main event. I am sure things will heat up then. With that said some good things did happen yesterday that are notable. Mark "the Shark" Snyder rolled into town Monday evening and proceeded to take 49th place and a small cash in the Ceasars Mega stack tournament. Look out the Shark is back in town....and he's hungry. If you happened to be on Poker Stars last night you may have noticed Andy "Stiritup24" on the leader board of the 30k guarantee. He took 2nd place in a chop and 6K. Sweet....now get your butt to Vegas baby!!! As for me...I was 3 for 3 in satellites last night and I am building up my tournament chip stack to go to the Main Event. It looks like at this time we have 4 or 5 entrants in the Main Event, there may be more after this weekend. Stay tuned....its Vegas...anything could happen. 2008 WSOP Updates: Wsop - Update
  By: Fred Adler - June 23rd, 2008
Good Morning, Wow, that was fun. I have to first of all thank all of you for your support. My phone was buzzing all day with text messages and phone messages. It's very cool to have so many people interested. Thanks again. Now for the good stuff. I was able to finish 61st out of 2720 entrants to the 1500 NL Holdem event #39. This was my fourth WSOP bracelet event, so my statistics are holding true. I have been cashing in 23% of all tournaments I enter. I was a little disappointed with the 61st place finish, but anytime I can be profitable in a tournament, that disappointment soon vanishes. In tournaments of this magnitude on this stage, it is very difficult. As an example, Barry Greenstein, one of the top professional players, started day two close to the chip lead with 90,000 in chips...he was eliminated not long after day two started. It is very hard to wade through 2720 players....no matter what level of player you are. So I feel good about the result. The 8500 dollar paycheck helped out also. As in most tournaments it always comes down to one hand. One hand you either did play and won it to propel you to the top or one you didn't play that saved your stack so you could move on. Here was the key hand at a key time in the tournament for me. The blinds were 1000 2000 with antes of 200. I am the Big Blind. The player who is second to act limps into the pot.....what? A limper? I haven't seen that in three rounds. Every hand was raised and most were re-raised. Wow! Everyone else folds, probably thinking the limper has something big. That's what I thought. The small blind calls. I look down to see a couple ducks. I thought for a second about raising, but that would be death....Mr. limper would just come over the top and I would have to fold... so, I check. I am thinking, hit me with a two and I have them Suckas trapped. The flop comes J 4 J rainbow. Small blind checks, ok...he may have a J or nothing. I check fully expecting Mr. Limper to bet and I would fold, get out of the hand for a big blind an lets move on. By the way I have 61,000 in chips the limper has about 70K and small blind 53K. The limper also checks....???? Now I am thinking one of these two has a J and they are trapping. I will be folding soon. The turn comes 2...La la la laaaaaaa....you can here it now....these are not the regular plumb fairies...these are the Professional Grade and they brought with them the whole Southern Baptist Church Choir. I can barely hear myself think, the sound was beautiful. The small blind checks....oh yeah, could he have the J? I check and continue my trap ready to spring it. I know Mr. Limper....who was Mr. Aggressive to this point is going to fire, and he does. He shoots 8K at the pot. Small Blind smooth calls???? Didn't expect that, so I run the scenario through my mind. Either he has a J and I am going to get his chips or he was so freaking lucky to have J 4 in the small blind and hit a miracle flop. Well, the odds of that are so slim, I will take my chance at the fact he has a J and I have him trapped. I raise to 24K. Mr. Limper folds, small blind goes all in....Yesssss....I found the Jack....so I thought. We both turn over our cards I show the full house 2's over Jacks, he shows his cards....pocket 4's for 4's over Jacks. Now at this point I am not only shocked, but my next thought is....does plumb fairy blood stain? I am covered with it....they are slaughtered. By the way...the river card came Q and the original limper had pocket Qs...he wanted to puke. This hand left me with 8K in chips with over 180 players still left...the average chip stack at that time was approximately 30K. Our table then breaks down and I am moved to a new table where I am able to hang on, chips going up and down, until I was finally knocked out by 10 10 when I pushed my last 25K all in with A K of diamonds. So that was it, what a thrill and I cant wait to get back to the tables. Thanks again to everyone for your support...like I said before....all the players here that represent the MPT/Boardroom really appreciate the emails, texts and phone messages. They ask me every day to say thank you. See you all soon.....on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: Wsop - Update
  By: Fred Adler - June 22nd, 2008
Good Morning, Grab a seat....this is going to be another long one. Yesterday was the 1500 NL Hold em event here at the WSOP. As far as I know the Tucson players were Ned Shabou, Wild Bill and myself. The field capped out at 2720 players. You could tell it was a Saturday...the place was packed. Not only with players but also spectators, vendors and the press pool just about doubles on the weekends. Lots of energy in the place. So the good news is I make it to day two and into the money....finally! It's been a frustrating month in tounaments for me to this point, but finally broke the ice. Here are some key hands that I thought you would be interested in hearing about. In the third hour I was snapped on a hand where I flopped two pair. the other player bets and I put him all in. I have him crushed until he hits a straight on the river to crush my chips down to 650. The blinds are 100 200 at this point and things looked bleak. Just then appears Bonnie Vasquez. Bonnie just became my second favorite dealer in the world. Melissa at the Diamond will always be Number one. (she always doubles me up, no matter what game I am in.) Anyway, I have Pocket 4's when a couple players limp into the pot. I raise all in and a player re-raises all in behind me....now I am heads up. I am not looking too good....he has AJ, the flop comes AJ8...As I stand up Bonnie comes thru with the 4. Sweetness!! I am back in the game. After this nice little turn of events I run my chips up to 3575 by playing really tight. Now we are 2 minutes away from a break and everyone folds to me in the small blind. The big blind is MR Kove. I dont know him, but the Brunson's do. Doyles daughter keeps coming by for visits to check on him. He is a very nice gentleman, but very tough poker player. Tough as nails. I have JJ so I raise to 1650....he pushes all in and has double the chips I do. Now, at this point I think he is just defending his big blind. We had a similar hand where he did the same thing when I tried to steal it and I folded. This time, I think....I got you sucka! I call....oops, he's got KK. Shit! Da ta daaaa......in comes Bonnie. The flop comes A 8 J...wow is she good to me. So we break with me up to over 7000 in chips. Whew!! Now its a few hours later and I am at 19,000 in chips. In comes Kenna James to our table. I have played with Kenna before and we were at a final table together at the Venetian last year. So I have a decent read on him from the start. He plays very tight and never plays out of position. He is a great reader as well. So we are moving along and 5 people limp into the pot. I am small blind Kenna is the big blind, because I had just felted MR. Kove with AA when he had QQ. I now have 10 6. The flop comes 10 K 6....Cha Ching. Guess what happened next. Oh yeah...plumb fairies abound. I check and Kenna bets out 1600...how sweet is that, I am going to trap one of the top pros....this is getting good. I raise to 5600...the King and the 10 on the board were spades...I am not gonna mess around. He smooth calls uh oh.... turn card K....aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh.....poof...fairy dust everywhere. He of course pushes all in....I am toast, I know it ...he knows it...I have to fold. Later when the day was over I ran into him...he told me he had QJ of spades....we agreed a good fold for me...too many outs for him and it was too much to risk my whole tournament. So I move on with my 11,000 in chips. Now we get to the bubble....I havent been so fortunate the last couple of hours and I am now down to 6500 in chips....the blinds are 500 1000 with 100 antes. I get moved to a new table......Barry Greensteins table.....and I mean his table. He is the chip leader with over 90K. Barry is two to my right...great news especially since I look like an ant to him and he's a hungry ant eater. But I get a small piece of him early....I'll show him I'm not scared. I get 10 10 he makes a standard raise to 3k entering the pot first as everyone folded to him. I push all in....he folds. I knew he was stealing. Even the girl next to me said he is easy to read, its just everyone is so star struck when they play with him. I thought I had a good read on the situation. Freddie 1...Barry 0. Hee heee. Now the bubble is burst (Yes, 1st cash in the 2008 WSOP) and after an hour and a half of watching Barry sleep his way through the excitement ( he said he played in a cash game the night before and had no sleep...what a life) our table is broken an I get moved with my measly 3500 in chips. The new table places me right next to Nigel, I recognize him from somewhere and his voice is unmistakeable. He sounds just like the guy on Rich and Famous...and he is a hoot. Anyway, there is only 10 minutes left in the round and we will break for tomorrow. I go on a rush that is historical. Within 10 minutes I am up to 16,900 in chips. Wow, what a ride. After 12 hours of play I make it to day two, with a few chps and tons of experience playing against some of the best in the world. Now its on to breakfast at the Palms and a good nights sleep. See you all soon......on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: Wsop - Update
  By: Fred Adler - June 21st, 2008
Good Morning, It was another good evening for Tucson and the MPT/Boardroom. Ned Shabou cashed again yesterday in the 1500 NL holdem event. His 30th place showing got him a litttle over 12,000 in cash taking him over 50k for the series. Today a large field is guaranteed as it is Saturday. The lines for registration will be long. The weekends just swell with players from everywhere, I know!!! Why would you play in a tournament with more people to go through which in itself creates more land mines. Well, the way I look at it is, the prize pool is larger and what else would I do on Saturday afternoon? See you all soon.....on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: WSOP -Update
  By: Fred Adler - June 20th, 2008
Good Morning, It's so nice to be missed....Thanks Bruce. :) I decided to take the day off yesterday and skip the 1500 NL event. I could tell I would be in no shape to perform. Playing 15 out of 16 days 12 hours per day is grueling and it caught up with me. So, I did what Andrew Black, The Zen Master of Poker, suggested....take a day off, change the scenery, get away and re-charge the batteries. Thanks Andrew, I feel great and the change of scenery was awesome. Exactly what I needed. I began my little break the night before and was able to catch the tail end of the MPT online tournament. Congratulations to RJ for taking it down. It came down to a classic heads up battle between RJ and Bruce (Knasty). From the rail we could hear the chants RJ, RJ, RJ....of course they were coming from Mark Brement. Mark and RJ make a deal every tournament for 10% of each other. Bruce's horseshoe would not prevail this time and RJ was able to take it down. Wednesday morning Charles Ryan, John Piotrowski and Curt Stinson all rolled into town and played the Ceasars Palace Mega stack tournament. John and Charles ended up in the money 11 and half hours later. Congratulations boys. Today a few more MPT/Boardroom players drop in for the weekend. Stay tuned as there is sure to be some news. See you all soon......on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: Wsop-Update
  By: Fred Adler - June 18th, 2008
Good Morning, Its the day after a bracelet event. I am exhausted. 10 hours of intense concentration. It is more draining than you would expect. Been there before but it always surprises me how tiring it is. 2703 entrants in the 1500 NL holdem tournament yesterday. 5 Tucsonans against the field. Ned, Fred, Tony, Nate and Wild Bill. I ran into Wild Bill yesterday, almost didnt recognize him, his beard is down do his belt buckle. It was good to see him. I was the last Tucsonan standing at 320th. What a table I was at when I busted. It was crazy. Every hand was all in. There were two big stacks and the rest mediums. It was either a big stack going all in to take more chips or a medium stack going all in to protect their hand. I was bounced with AK against QK suited, Q hit the flop and I was on the rail. Today we are descending on Ceasars Palace. John Piotrowski and Curt Stinson just arrived and it looks like Tony, Nate and I are all joining them there. More players from Tucson will be here over the weekend to continue the assualt. Things are really heating up here as the crowds are growing, so do the number of Big name players. Scotty Nguyen, David Grey, The Jesus, Jean Beland, all were within eyeshot during yesterdays event. Scotty and David sat next to Tony and I at the dinner break. How cool is that....do you think we learned anything from that conversation? Wow! This is the coolest part, they are all approachable and friendly for the most part. Then you get to compete against them. I can't express how cool that is....although I could be wrong. It may just be me. Thanks to everyone for cheering us on yesterday. See you soon.....on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: WSOP-Update
  By: Fred Adler - June 17th, 2008
Good Morning, Today was a great day for the MPT/Boardroom players. If you havent already heard Deb Blair made it to 15th place (out of 2703 entrants) in the 1500 NL Holdem event yesterday. This was a 29K payday for Deb along with player of the year points. Deb said she really appreciates all the well wishes from everyone and that she will be rolling part of her winnings into a buy in to the main event. I say she has a great chance to cash again. Her game is solid and she looked very confident at the table. Not to be outdone, Ned Shabou, again cashed in the second chance tournament yesterday. He was at the final table when a chop was worked out giving Ned 6th place and 10k. This puts Ned at over 40k for the 2008 WSOP and so far is the leading money winner from the MPT/Boardroom players. While watching Deb last night I get a call from Mark Brement. He qualified for a seat in the Main event. Sunday on Full Tilt was the 150 seat guarantee tournament. He was able to last 11 hours in front of his computer and beat out over 6000 players to win the seat. Congratulations to all three players. Today, Tuesday, there will be several players in the 1500 NL tournament. Brian Pedersen, Tony Santa Maria, Nate York and Myself will all try to get on the board. This event starts at noon and you can catch the updates on the WSOP site. I just want to say thank you for all the support. It's very cool to receive all the text messages and emails from players in the club while someone is doing well. All the players here truly appreciate it and we are getting a huge kick out of it. We all want to do well to represent Tucson and The MPT. See you all soon.....on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: WSOP - Update
  By: Fred Adler - June 16th, 2008
Hello from the WSOP, Its 2:40 am , that time of night when all tournaments shut down for the evening. Every tournament in town, every casino and all the WSOP tournaments shut down at 2 am. Every night the remaining restaurants that are open are filled with poker players and conversations about the days hands. Bad beat stories and strategies are discussed over breakfast. It is awesome, this is it, the life of a tournament poker player. Tonight there is anticipation. Deb Blair has made it to the final 17 players in the 1500 hold em event that startted Saturday afternoon. Her spirits are high and she looks very confident and calm at the table. She has a decent chip stack and has been able to hold her own as players fall all around her. She was able to help a few of them to the door herself. At one point she had been up to 545,000 in chips and closed out the day with 310,000. The blinds were 8,000 and 16,000 with 3,000 antes when play was stopped. Play will resume for her on Monday afternoon at 2pm. The final 17 will return to battle it out for the bracelet. Deb said she really appreciates all the texts and support from everyone. Stay tuned, we just may have our first final table participant in MPT/Boardroom history. See you all soon......on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: WSOP - Update
  By: Fred Adler - June 15th, 2008
Happy Fathers Day, As expected this weekend has already heated up with MPT players doing well at the 2008 WSOP. Ned Shabou, just having a great series has cashed again! He Played in the $2000 NL holdem event that started on Wednesday. He was able to make it to 40th place when he was taken out by quad Kings. Another cash of 8500 puts Ned over 30000 for this years WSOP. And he is not done yet. Ned assured me there is more to come. Bruce Schulman, his Son Matt, Kris Kerry and Debbie Blair all showed up on Friday afternoon. After a little trouble at the airport, they were all right in the mix. Matt, who just turned 21 immediately got into the fray by trying a Satellite, he held his own pretty well and although he didnt cash, at 21 he got a real taste of the Spectacle we all love. Yesterday, Saturday, was the 1500 NL Holdem event. Deb, Bruce, Matt, Kris and myself were all entered. Bruce was knocked out before the first break when his set ran into a higher set. Yep, even here at the WSOP it happens...it's really just not the internet. Kris Kerry was the next to go out, he said he just couldnt get rolling. Matt and myself made it through more than half the field of 2703 players ending up in the 1200 range. But the great news is Deb. She was able to get rolling quickly and build a chip stack that has carried her through day one and into the money. she will start today with double the average chips and only 240 players left. The money bubble was broken last night about 11:00 at 270 players. The tournament resumed until 1 am and broke for the night. I spoke to Deb this morning and she is feeling very good and confident. Hopefully we will be cheering her on at the final table tomorrow. Hope you all have a wonderful Fathers Day. See you all soon....on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: WSop - update
  By: Fred Adler - June 13th, 2008
Good Morning, I know it has been a couple of days since my last blog, but really there was nothing to report. I decided to take a couple days off to rest my poker brain and body. Being a poker pro (not that I am one, but am simulating one this month) is not all glamorous. There is Scheduling, planning, preparation, eating on the run, and oh yeah...did I mention the long hours? Dont get me wrong, I am very grateful to be able to be here for a whole month and compete with the best in the world. It is awesome. There is nothing like looking across the table and seeing Daniel, Doyle, Phil (11 brtacelet Phil) and the scariest one of all to me is Eric Lundgren. Wow!! This guy is like a surgeon. Keep your hands on your wallets. He is a super nice guy, but at the poker, watch out. I have said it since my first visit to the WSOP in 2005. It is the greatest spectacle in all of sport. What other sport offers us the opportunity to play against the best on their turf? I know!!! Well the Tucson invasion begins today, and from what I hear over the next week alot of MPT and Boardroom players will be in town. So check back in for some juice. See you all soon....on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: Wsop - Update
  By: Fred Adler - June 10th, 2008
Hello Everyone, Not much of an update today. I decided to rest. Rest my body and mind. It was apparent that after 7 straight days of poker until 2 every morning was enough. Getting out of bed this morning was very hard. Now I am writing this to you refreshed and almost ready to go. The plan now is to rest more today, play some satellites tonight and be ready for the Wednesday NL event. There are just a couple people still here and it looks like they all had the same idea. It sounds like another Tucson invasion this weekend, so the updates should become very juicy. See you all soon......on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: WSOP - Update
  By: Fred Adler - June 9th, 2008
Good Morning Everyone, You may want to grab a cup of coffee, a soda, or any other beverage of choice, have a seat in your most comfy chair....this one will take a while. Let's start with a hand I forgot to tell you all about in the last update. Saturday evening a bunch of Tucson players decended on the Ceasars poker room. It was a good night for most of us as the place was packed with players of all skill levels. But I wanted to tell you about a great hand that made us all laugh. I was in the small blind with 4 limpers in a pot at a 2-5 no limit cash game. I have JJ and raise the pot to 20. Three callers later the flop comes J J K...cha ching and the plumb fairies begin to dance. After two checks the third player bets out 60....I of course call and we lose the other two. Next card A....can this get sweeter? The other player checks, I check like I am scared of the ace. Last card 4...he bets a small amount, I raise he re-raises all in the rest of his 280. I of course call and turn over the J's...he turns over A A for Aces over Jacks. Yippeee...Jackpo...what no jackpot in this place? How about that, the first time in my life I am anywhere near a Jackpot and there is not one. I am still laughing....the good news is I got his 300+ out of the hand and an additional 102 from Ceasars for a high hand bonus. Gotta love Vegas ....Baby. Well today was the Ladies event at the WSOP. Unfortunately none of our ladies made the money. It was a very tough structure with only 2000 in starting chips and blinds moving rapidly. I dont think I talked to one lady who liked the structure. It was an all in fest very quickly. Deb Blair made it the farthest by hanging on to get to 150th out of 1200. As for me, I was quickly dismissed from the Venetian tournament this morning. It was a 1070 buyin with 15000 in starting chips, 1 hour blinds. Awesome. Sitting next to me is a young man who is on his phone between every hand. Now he just got lucky the last 4 hands he played and has chipped up to about 26k by hitting the river to save his hide every time. But it was the phone conversations that I was able to listen in on (lesson for all you ipod junkies). The information I gleaned from his conversations was priceless....I had him pegged. Especially when he convinced one of his buddies to share the buyin to the tournament and then proceeded to tell the person on the other end of the phone that the buy in was 2K. What a theif...and now he is a free roller...so I knew ...the only way to get his chips was to trap him. He had called down every pot he was in and got lucky time after time. So here we are , I am the big blind....he raises 3 times the blind from under the gun....every one folds, I call with A 4 of spades. Normally I dont play A low but in this situation, I am heads up with him and if I hit the trap is sprung. If I dont hit, no harm...I have 19k in chips and just called 200. The flop Ad 4h 2s....yeeehawww...the trap is set...now to get him to fall into it, I check. As expected he bets 800...After some dramatics, I raise to 2400...he insta pushes all in. Hello Plumb Fairies. The set up complete and the trap is sprung, I call. Now is when things get really fun. He show A K....the turn 8s...now I have a flush draw as well...river 8....dead fairies everywhere....what a blood bath. His K kicker sends me to the rail....the way far out rail 6 floors up in the parking garage. My response? I suggested he go and buy a lottery ticket immediately. I gotta feel good though...another tough beat, but the read and trap were perfect. I think I am channeling Phil Helmuth, I couldnt stop talking about it all day....how I had the guy set up perfect. Ahhhh you gotta love Vegas Baby. Stay tuned...tomorrow is the NL shootout event. I am looking forward to this tournament, as it is the easiest way to the bracelet. Its 2am and I need my beauty sleep. See you all soon....on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: WSOP-Update
  By: Fred Adler - June 7th, 2008
Hello Everyone, It's 2 am and just got back to the condo. I am still jazzed about the tournament and not ready to sleep. It was an awesome tournament, everything I expected, with a small field and all the best players. You name it, they were there. I sat down at my first table and to my immediate right was a 2007 bracelet winner, on my left was Scotty Nguyen"s little sister. WOW!! This is going to be fun. I knew this tournament was going to be a test to see just where my game is. It was and I feel really good about the way I played. Unfortunately I didnt make the money and I didnt want this forum to be about bad beats or hands, but I just cant resist. Early on I took a major beat when I flopped trip K's. Was able to get the short stack all in and he hit his 3 outer for an inside straight on the river. I was disappointed but not upset. I loved it that he was putting his chips in the pot when I was licking my chops with 3 kings. Well after that I was able to play very solid poker and get myself back to the average chip stack at the dinner break. At the end of the 5th hour of play I raise with AQ after 3 limpers, they all call. The flop comes Q 8 Q, Perfect! A bet and a raise in front of me, I am so happy, the plumb fairies are singing in my head. I of course re-raise and get called by both players. Next card 8...could this get any better? After some betting and raising I am all in and so is one other player, the third player has a few chips left....this is a 20,000 chip pot. Yummy. River card A...love it....until we all show. I have a full house Q's over 8's....Mr. young poker star with more chips turns over 8 8...for quad 8's. Cooler. I am now on the rail. Again, I loved it that I was getting the chips in the pot with a really strong hand...so I was not upset or mad about getting beat. I really feel I played very well all day and most of all, had a blast. There is nothing like the feeling of competing with the best. Well thats all for tonight. Thanks again for all the e-mails and well wishes. I am really enjoying reading them. See you all soon.....on the felt, Freddie. Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: Day 7 at the WSOP
  By: Fred Adler - June 5th, 2008
Hello Everyone, Thanks for all the good luck wishes and responses to the newsletters. I am getting a kick out of reading them. Keep em coming. It's day 7 at the WSOP and already the spectacle is in full bloom. All the big names are here as well as celebrities. Everywhere you turn, a recognizable face is there. Many of the interenet big names are here as well. Mark "The Shark" Snyder was the next MPT/Boardroom player to cash this week. Mark was able to take 4th place in the Ceasars Mega Deep Stack Tournament which gave him a nice $10,000 payday and Cardplayer Player of the year points. The field started with 498 players all paying a 325 dollar buy in. The tournament lasted two days, 14 hours the first day and 7 on day two, with first place paying over $40,000. This is a great tournamet series and very popular among the players here for the WSOP. Yesterday was the 225 buy in at Ceasars where Jeff Stanley and Myself were entered. Unfortunately my AK ran into AA to chop my chips in half and then was knocked out 178th out of a field of 425, when my A10 short stack push was beat by QK. The good news is Jeff Stanley was able to make it to 32nd place and a nice little cash. Jeff played very well all day against a tough field that included many internet players and even one celebrity, Louie Anderson. I bet that table had fun. Tucson is being represented in a big way as well. I have seen alot of familiar faces and yesterday ran into a couple of our favorite dealers from the Diamond. Jobe and Brian were also playing at Ceasars. Brian finished high in a tournament with a nice payday, so next time you are at the Diamond, be sure to congratulate him. Well today is a day of relaxing for me. My goal is to take it easy, play some 2-5 no limit at the WSOP and get some rest tonight. Tomorrow is the $1500 Limit Hold em tournament. It will be my first bracelet event...so say your prayers, rub you Buddha, do a good luck dance...I will need all the help I can get. See you all soon....on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article

2008 WSOP Updates: Tucson Players Already Cashing in the 2008 World Series of Poker
  By: Fred Adler - June 5th, 2008
Hello Everyone, I am writing this from the 2008 World Series of Poker. So many people have asked me to keep them updated on the progress of our Monthly Poker Tour and Boardroom players, so I decided to do a daily report. Hopefully I can keep up with it. It has been exciting already and we are only into day 5. Ned Shabou was the first MPT/Boardroom player to cash in a 2008 WSOP event. He played in Event #2 taking down 34th place and $18,000 in prize money. "I had pocket Aces and Pocket Kings alot" said Ned. "I made some good plays and had players fold to me at key times" he also reported. Great job Ned and way to represent. Mark Snyder is in the money as I write this in the Ceasars Deep Stack tournament. They started with 10,000 in chips and at the break last night there were only 25 players left out of 470+. First place pays approx. $40,000. They will resume play today. Eddie Holmes, The 2008 MPT Points Champion will be playing in the $2000.00 NL holdem event today. John Piotrowski is also registered for that tournament. Check out their progress on Worldseriesofpoker.com. As for me... I just rolled into town yesterday afternoon. Won my first satellite tournament and now have my 1500 dollar buy in for Fridays Limit Hold em Event. Today I am off to the Ceasars Deep Stack tournament. See you all soon....on the felt, Freddie Read Full Article
