The Final Wave
By: Fred Adler - July 5th, 2009 at 10:55 PM
Elliott and Getzwiller,The Final wave of players have hit the WSOP Main Event.

This year has been a tough year for the MPT players at the WSOP. Sean Getzwiller has been our Hot Player, with 4 cashes out of 8 events. You can get updates about Sean on his spoinsor site....check out the last blog for the link.

This weekend started the Main Event and the Final Wave of MPT players have hit the Rio. Matt Elliott, the 2009 MPT Champion arrived on Thursday eveneing. His text to me on Friday morning was...."this place is Crazy" . It is Matt's first experience at the WSOP and he is pumped. He started his Main Event run on Saturday. He made it through all 4 rounds and is in for Day 2. He will be playing again on Tuesday.

Sean Getzwiler will be starting his bid for the millions Monday. Stay tuned for updates all through the Main Event.

Well, I know this years blogs haven't been as exciting as last years blogs....but I do have a morsel for you. I was playing in a Venetian Deep Stack tournament between WSOP events and I saw the funniest thing I have ever seen happen in a poker game. So here it is...

I am at a table about half way through the feld of 722 players....average chip stack at my table is 20K....one player...a very good internet player has 70K and the player to my left (we will call him little old guy) has 4200. In the open seat a player (we will call him Disheveled guy) comes to the table....He is huge....I am talking Andre the Giant huge...Hair a mess, clothes wrinkeled (of course I would notice) totally disheveled. He is digging through his pockets standing over the table next to the empty seat and very confused. After pulling out what seemed like a redwood tree worth of paper, receipts, tickets etc...out of his pockets ( I was ready to call waste management, he pulled so much garbage out of his pockets) He tells the dealer that he lost his seat card. The floor comes over and veifys that yes...this is disheveled guys seat. Now for the fun part.

Mr little Old Guy....who is first to act (thats right you brainiacs...that means I am in the big blind) shoves all 4200 in. Of course he will get action everyone has over 20k....The internet kid calls....Disheveled Guy calls....everyone else folds.

Now comes the problem....Old Little Guy doesn't realize Disheveled Guy is in the hand....he thinks he is heads up...and just as the dealer is laying out the flop, Old Little Guy turns over his hand showing 44. The flop comes 9 of spades Q of spades and 7 of hearts. The floor is called over again. Little Old Guy is told that he exposed his hand too early and if he wins the hand will get a penalty of 10 hands on the rail. Hang in there....we are getting to the good part.

Internet Kid checks.....Disheveled old Guy pulls a Helmuth insta shove....chips flying into the pot...30K worth. Why you ask? Thats what we were all wondering...and after some huge berating from Internet Kid....the Kid folds.. As he folds he asks Disheveled Guy....why did you do that?

Disheveled Guy replies..." To get you out of the Hand"....as he rolls over his pocket.......3's. Blahhhhh haaaa hhhaaaa....Yes....Pocket 3's....It still makes me laugh...and I have had a full week to get over it.

He shoved with 44 exposed and three over cards on the board...I love this game.

Of course Little Old Guy trippled up and had to sit out his 10 penalty hands. The Internet Kid took out Disheveled Guy 6 hands later when Disheveled guy bluffed all his chips off to him....amazing.

Well that's all for now...Stay tuned for Main Event updates.

See you all soon....On the felt,

2009 WSOP
By: Fred Adler - June 9th, 2009 at 12:22 AM
WavesIts like the beaches of Normandie.....the MPT players assault on the 2009 WSOP keeps coming in waves.

The first wave of Junior, Sean Getwiler, Crawford, Steve Schulman, RJ and myself showed up for the first weekend. Unfortunately no cashes for any of us in a bracelet event. It was fun to watch Junior (2009 points leader) at his first World Series. I walked around with him for a couple hours just to watch his face....priceless.

Steve Schulman was able to take down a second chance tournament at the Rio and took home 10K for his 1st place finish....awesome Steve...first one on the board.

Mark Crawford (2nd in points) took his game to the satellite tables and took a few down to amass a collection of $500 tournament chips.

Week two was a little better....The second wave consisted of Bruce and Matt Schulman, Roger Bull, Pete Bernal and left over from week one was Sean Getzwiler.

Sean was able to cash in a 1500 event taking 65th place for $6800 and the first MPTer to cash in a bracelet event this year.

Roger, Bruce and Sean....all pounded it out at the satellite tables for a hefty cache of tournament chips....they will return!!

Stage three of the assault started with Deb Blair getting to Vegas and Sean Getzwiler getting deep in the 5K tournament.

As I am writing this Deb is deep in the Ladies tournament with 80k in chips...she is in the money and in very good chip position.

Stay tuned as the MPT assualt resumes.

Day one 2009 WSOP
By: Fred Adler - May 29th, 2009 at 11:51 AM
Day OneDay one was awesome....all the greats of the game were present for the 40K NL Holdem tournament.

The first person I run into is Scotty...then Peter Eastgate...Phil Ivey, many Trans, and Eric Lindgrun.

Every where you turn there is a familiar face...and lots of conversations of deals being made...It was very cool.

Of course Phil Helmuth made his grand appearance 40 seconds before time ran out on him to be seated.....everyone in the place went nuts.

There are 89 players left for day two and lots of new internet faces.

As for me on day one....a couple satellites....not good....but great cash games all over town....nice little come back.

Stay tuned and I will see you all soon....on the felt,
